How to Crack a Wi-Fi Network

How to Crack a Wi-Fi Network’s WEP Password with BackTrack

You already know that if you want to lock down your Wi-Fi network, you should opt for WPA encryption because WEP is easy to crack. But did you know how easy? Take a look.
Note: This post demonstrates how to crack WEP passwords, an older and less often used network security protocol. If the network you want to crack is using the more popular WPA encryption, see our guide to cracking a Wi-Fi network's WPA password with Reaver instead.
Today we're going to run down, step-by-step, how to crack a Wi-Fi network with WEP security turned on. But first, a word: Knowledge is power, but power doesn't mean you should be a jerk, or do anything illegal. Knowing how to pick a lock doesn't make you a thief. Consider this post educational, or a proof-of-concept intellectual exercise.
Dozens of tutorials on how to crack WEP are already all over the internet using this method. Seriously—Google it. This ain't what you'd call "news." But what is surprising is that someone like me, with minimal networking experience, can get this done with free software and a cheap Wi-Fi adapter. Here's how it goes.

What You'll Need

How to Crack a Wi-Fi Network's WEP Password with BackTrackUnless you're a computer security and networking ninja, chances are you don't have all the tools on hand to get this job done. Here's what you'll need:
  • A compatible wireless adapter—This is the biggest requirement. You'll need a wireless adapter that's capable of packet injection, and chances are the one in your computer is not. After consulting with my friendly neighborhood security expert, I purchased an Alfa AWUS050NH USB adapter, pictured here, and it set me back about $50 on Amazon. Update: Don't do what I did. Get the Alfa AWUS036H, not the US050NH, instead. The guy in this video below is using a $12 model he bought on Ebay (and is even selling his router of choice). There are plenty of resources on getting aircrack-compatible adapters out there.
  • A BackTrack Live CD. We already took you on a full screenshot tour of how to install and use BackTrack 3, the Linux Live CD that lets you do all sorts of security testing and tasks. Download yourself a copy of the CD and burn it, or load it up in VMware to get started.
  • A nearby WEP-enabled Wi-Fi network. The signal should be strong and ideally people are using it, connecting and disconnecting their devices from it. The more use it gets while you collect the data you need to run your crack, the better your chances of success.
  • Patience with the command line. This is an ten-step process that requires typing in long, arcane commands and waiting around for your Wi-Fi card to collect data in order to crack the password. Like the doctor said to the short person, be a little patient.

Crack That WEP

To crack WEP, you'll need to launch Konsole, BackTrack's built-in command line. It's right there on the taskbar in the lower left corner, second button to the right. Now, the commands.
First run the following to get a list of your network interfaces:
airmon-ng
The only one I've got there is labeled ra0. Yours may be different; take note of the label and write it down. From here on in, substitute it in everywhere a command includes (interface).
Now, run the following four commands. See the output that I got for them in the screenshot below.

airmon-ng stop (interface)
ifconfig (interface) down
macchanger --mac 00:11:22:33:44:55 (interface)
airmon-ng start (interface)

How to Crack a Wi-Fi Network's WEP Password with BackTrack If you don't get the same results from these commands as pictured here, most likely your network adapter won't work with this particular crack. If you do, you've successfully "faked" a new MAC address on your network interface, 00:11:22:33:44:55.
Now it's time to pick your network. Run:
airodump-ng (interface)
To see a list of wireless networks around you. When you see the one you want, hit Ctrl+C to stop the list. Highlight the row pertaining to the network of interest, and take note of two things: its BSSID and its channel (in the column labeled CH), as pictured below. Obviously the network you want to crack should have WEP encryption (in the ENC) column, not WPA or anything else.
How to Crack a Wi-Fi Network's WEP Password with BackTrack Like I said, hit Ctrl+C to stop this listing. (I had to do this once or twice to find the network I was looking for.) Once you've got it, highlight the BSSID and copy it to your clipboard for reuse in the upcoming commands.
Now we're going to watch what's going on with that network you chose and capture that information to a file. Run:
airodump-ng -c (channel) -w (file name) --bssid (bssid) (interface)
Where (channel) is your network's channel, and (bssid) is the BSSID you just copied to clipboard. You can use the Shift+Insert key combination to paste it into the command. Enter anything descriptive for (file name). I chose "yoyo," which is the network's name I'm cracking.
How to Crack a Wi-Fi Network's WEP Password with BackTrack
You'll get output like what's in the window in the background pictured below. Leave that one be. Open a new Konsole window in the foreground, and enter this command:
aireplay-ng -1 0 -a (bssid) -h 00:11:22:33:44:55 -e (essid) (interface)
Here the ESSID is the access point's SSID name, which in my case is yoyo. What you want to get after this command is the reassuring "Association successful" message with that smiley face.
How to Crack a Wi-Fi Network's WEP Password with BackTrack
You're almost there. Now it's time for:
aireplay-ng -3 -b (bssid) -h 00:11:22:33:44:55 (interface)
Here we're creating router traffic to capture more throughput faster to speed up our crack. After a few minutes, that front window will start going crazy with read/write packets. (Also, I was unable to surf the web with the yoyo network on a separate computer while this was going on.) Here's the part where you might have to grab yourself a cup of coffee or take a walk. Basically you want to wait until enough data has been collected to run your crack. Watch the number in the "#Data" column—you want it to go above 10,000. (Pictured below it's only at 854.)
Depending on the power of your network (mine is inexplicably low at -32 in that screenshot, even though the yoyo AP was in the same room as my adapter), this process could take some time. Wait until that #Data goes over 10k, though—because the crack won't work if it doesn't. In fact, you may need more than 10k, though that seems to be a working threshold for many.
How to Crack a Wi-Fi Network's WEP Password with BackTrack
Once you've collected enough data, it's the moment of truth. Launch a third Konsole window and run the following to crack that data you've collected:
aircrack-ng -b (bssid) (file name-01.cap)
Here the filename should be whatever you entered above for (file name). You can browse to your Home directory to see it; it's the one with .cap as the extension.
If you didn't get enough data, aircrack will fail and tell you to try again with more. If it succeeds, it will look like this:
The WEP key appears next to "KEY FOUND." Drop the colons and enter it to log onto the network.

Problems Along the Way

With this article I set out to prove that cracking WEP is a relatively "easy" process for someone determined and willing to get the hardware and software going. I still think that's true, but unlike the guy in the video below, I had several difficulties along the way. In fact, you'll notice that the last screenshot up there doesn't look like the others—it's because it's not mine. Even though the AP which I was cracking was my own and in the same room as my Alfa, the power reading on the signal was always around -30, and so the data collection was very slow, and BackTrack would consistently crash before it was complete. After about half a dozen attempts (and trying BackTrack on both my Mac and PC, as a live CD and a virtual machine), I still haven't captured enough data for aircrack to decrypt the key.
So while this process is easy in theory, your mileage may vary depending on your hardware, proximity to the AP point, and the way the planets are aligned. Oh yeah, and if you're on deadline—Murphy's Law almost guarantees it won't work if you're on deadline.

Got any experience with the WEP cracking courtesy of BackTrack? What do you have to say about it? Give it up in the comments.

How to handle disrespectful students

For just about every teacher, there comes a time when a student is going to challenge authority. Some students challenge authority because they are genuinely unhappy with the world and they seem naturally drawn to be aggressive with authority figures. Other students are simply looking for some entertainment, and they will be disrespectful to see how far they can "push" the teacher. Regardless of the motivation, the teacher must be ready to deal with a variety of student behavior. Here are a few thoughts on how to handle disrespectful students.
Handle quickly The key to discipline is often timing. When the teacher lays out expectations for the class, there are certain students who will very quickly test to see if the teacher is serious. If the teacher's actions do not match their words, then they have already surrendered some control of the class. Therefore, disrespectful students must be handled as quickly as possible.
Stay controlled
When a teacher deals with a disrespectful student, they should remain calm and controlled. They should not get into a yelling match with the student or attempt to gain the upper hand by raising their voice. There may be times where a raised voice is appropriate, but sometimes the quiet teacher is more intimidating to students. The teacher should calmly explain to the student that their behavior is unacceptable and that it will not be tolerated. If the student continues to be disrespectful, the teacher may need to take further steps of discipline.
Remove the student
At times it may be appropriate to remove the student from the situation, either to the hall or to an administrator's office. The reason for this is that students sometimes lose their energy when they no longer have an audience. If fellow students are not there to be entertained, the student may cease their disrespect.
Higher power
Finally, there are times when a teacher has to bring in a higher power, such as an assistant principal or a principal. This isn't to suggest that the teacher cannot handle their own discipline situations, but sometimes the presence of a higher authority conveys to the student that the teacher is serious about their behavioral expectations. Overall, the teacher doesn't have to be a tyrant and they don't have to be condescending to manage their classroom. Rather, they need to set expectations for the students, and then make sure they are followed so that the student understands that the teacher's words and actions are going to match.

How to Hack an Email Account – Email Hacking

How to Hack an Email Account – Email Hacking

How to Hack an Email AccountWondering to know how to hack an email account? Well, before you can do that, you need to understand the real ways of hacking that actually work and also that are simply scam and do not work.
So, here in this post, I am going to discuss some of the Real and Working Ways to hack emails; along with that, I am also going to make you aware of the common myths and scams associated with email hacking.
On a regular basis, a lot of people contact me about suspecting their boyfriend or girlfriend of cheating, and ask me how to hack their email password so as to find out the truth. If you are in a similar situation where you want to hack into someone’s email account, then this post might help you!
With my experience of over 8 years in the field of ethical hacking and computer security, I can tell you that, there exists only 2 foolproof methods to hack emails. All the other methods are simply scam or don’t work.

Possible Ways to Hack an Email Account

1. Keylogging: The Easiest Way!

Keylogging simply refers to the process of recording each and every keystroke that a user types on a specific computer’s keyboard. This can be done using a small software program called keylogger (also known as spy software). Once you install this program on the target computer, it will automatically load from the start-up and start capturing every keystroke typed on that computer including usernames and passwords. A keylogger software will operate in a complete stealth mode and thus remains undetected.
In order to use this software, you don’t need to have any special knowledge of hacking. Anyone with a basic knowledge of computer should be able to install and use this software with ease. I recommend the following keylogger as the best for your monitoring needs.

Easily Access any Email

SniperSpy Benefits

Here is a summary of benefits that you will receive with SniperSpy software:

1. You can ACCESS ANY PASSWORD
With SniperSpy, you can gain access to any password protected material such as Facebook, MySpace or any other email account.

2. REMOTE INSTALL Feature
SniperSpy has a Remote Install feature using which it makes it possible to install this software on a remote computer. This feature can be very handy when you do not have physical access to the target computer on which you want to install this software.

3. MONITOR EVERY ACTIVITY on the Target Computer
With SniperSpy, you can not only capture the passwords, but also spy on their IM conversations and take screenshots of the activities on the target computer.

4. NEVER GET CAUGHT
Since SniperSpy runs in a complete stealth mode, it’s presence on the target computer remains undetected. So you need not worry about being caught or traced back.

5. Extremely EASY TO USE
Since SniperSpy is designed for novice computer users, it requires no special skills to install and use.

6. Works on Both PC and MAC
SniperSpy is fully compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 and Mac.

Can I Install SniperSpy on a Local Computer?
Yes, you can install SniperSpy on a Local or Remote computer. It supports both Remote and Local installations. So, you need not worry whether it is a local or a remote computer.

How Safe is to Use SniperSpy?
SniperSpy is completely safe and secure since it neither collects any information from your computer nor contact you in any way.
So, what are you waiting for? Go, grab it now and expose the truth!

2. Phishing: The Difficult Way

Phishing is the other most commonly used trick to hack email passwords. This method involves the use of Fake Login Pages whose look and feel are almost identical to that of legitimate websites. Fake login pages are created by many hackers which appear exactly as Gmail or Yahoo login pages.
Once you enter your login details on such a fake login page, they are actually stolen away by the hacker. However, creating a fake login page and taking it online to successfully hack an email account is not an easy job. It demands an in depth technical knowledge of HTML and scripting languages like PHP, JSP etc. Also, phishing is considered  as a serious criminal offense and hence it is a risky job to attempt phishing attack. So, I recommend the usage of keyloggers as the best to hack email password.

Common Myths and Scams Associated with Email Hacking

Today, there are many scam websites out there on the Internet which often misguide users with false information. Some of them may even rip off your pockets with false promises. So, here are some of the things that you need to be aware of:
1. There is no readymade software program (except the keylogger) that can hack emails and get you the password instantly just with a click of a button. So, if you come across any website that claims to sell such softwares, I would advise you to stay away from them.
2. Never trust any hacking service that claims to hack any email for just $100 or $200. All I can tell you is that, most of them are no more than a scam.
3. I have seen many websites on the Internet that are distributing fake tutorials on email hacking. Most of these tutorials will tell you something like this: “you need to send an email to passwordrecovery@gmail.com along with your username and password” (or something similar). Beware! Never give away your password to anyone nor send it to any email address. If you do so, you will lose your password itself in attempt to hack somebody else’s password.

Internet and Students

Problems associated with internet and students
The Internet has been welcomed by educators as a great tool for use in the classroom or to create virtual classrooms, because it seems to be a virtually perfect instrument of education that offers the utmost convenience to students while offering endless possibilities for innovative teaching (Applebome, 1999). This essay highlights some of the problems i.e. plagiarism, negative content that can affect an individual’s performance, addiction and unanticipated consequences that are encountered as the use of the Internet by students’ increases.
Problems associated with internet addiction
Internet addiction is a real condition that affects students worldwide. What are its causes and symptoms? Many students believe it's merely a way to chat on Facebook and Twitter or losing track of time while playing a game. Internet addiction is not the same and its consequences can be far more devastating (Michael Rao, 2008)
Internet addiction becomes real when it negatively affects the lives of both the addict and all those around them. Internet addiction has taken so many years to become established due to the disbelief many have over its legitimacy. Most internet addicts do have an ulterior motive for being online so much. In some cases using the internet is simply a private way for feeding their addictions such as gambling or pornography.
It's fairly easy to spot internet addiction. The addicted students withdraw from other students and become more focused with friends they know online. They often make excuses to stay home more, but when they are home, they may seem apprehensive or depressed until they can find a good reason to go online (Michael Rao, 2008)
Problems associated with plagiarism
The Internet makes it easier for students to indulge in unethical behaviours like plagiarism. The number of online term paper mills has increased tremendously in recent years. The Internet makes it easy to copy paragraphs of material from various Web sites and put them together for an assignment or a class report, or to modify someone else’s assignment. The Internet can also be handy in tracking down former students of a class for copies of tests, notes, and assignments. This is not to say that all these activities have not always occurred. But, to point out that the technology now makes it easier – and therefore likelier by a larger percentage of the population. (Phillips and Horton 2000)
Problems associated with negative content that can affect an individual’s performance.
Internet has affected many students particularly university and other higher learning students.
Experts say that internet encourages students to dart between pages instead of concentrating on one source such as the school library which is the traditional way of a student research. Dr David Runciman, a political scientist at Cambridge University, said: ''What I notice about students from the first day they arrive at university is that they ask nervously, 'What do we have to read? Managers, as well as students being trained to be future managers, have begun to use the Internet to find information on almost every subject. But the Internet has a huge, often contradictory amount of information on several topics.
This and other many factors lead to addiction to the internet. Thus students drop their performance due to minimal attention to their books, social conflicts like relationship breakages mainly caused by social sites i.e. Facebook and Twitter.

Mathematic (Maths Subject)

Mathematics is really a disease to many students from all angles, in universities, collages, and both high and primary schools. But the disease is severe in high schools, such that sometimes its seems incurable. Girls are the most affected with this disease. When a student joins form 1 he/she is told that chemistry is the hardest subject, but believe me that feeling comes out if the student is good enough to understand in class.

Once in form two students start developing a "stop understanding" effort to the subject, not because they are weak but because they scored it poorly. The subject becomes one of their least read because it doesn't have stories, pictures and many more attractions as other subjects do in their respective textbooks. Actually its boring to read mathematics, but you don't have a choice.

Mathematics if not practiced it will give a student a very hard time once in form four. Picture this example; if you are given to solve a very simple equation like X+2=4 and you don't score this because you lack practice!, there is no way on earth you are going to solve this equation X+2Y-67=3X-Y+40. That is why you will forever fail as you progress to form four. When they said that practice makes perfect, they did not guess they meant it.

If you are in form four and you are a D material its never late for you. OK you cant score an A in your final examination that is for sure, but you can beat the law of the jungle (C+). I mean it, i.e survival for the fittest. Don't be left our of the career program just because you scored a D in mathematics. I scored a B+ from an E in form one because i had a positive mind and used to listed to encouragements from my teachers. This is the only subject that holds your career, because if you are an A material definitely you good in other subjects as it opes your mind.

Let us cure the disease;
  • Never plan to read the subject, plan to practice it because it is not a novel!;
  • Learn to do corrections on your own, this will help you to discover your weakness;
  • Have a positive mind towards the subject because it was never supposed to be a disease to you you developed it on your own, the same way you can do away with it on your own;
  • Do a few calculations with your friends in class because that will help you to master the course;
  • Learn to practice on your own, i.e. before you read your biology, English or any other subject, do some few calculations because it will boost your ability to perform well;
  • Don't give yourself challenges you cant manage, just start with simple equations like X+2=4, then you will proceed to hard equation like X+2Y-67=3X-Y+40.

Mathematics love or hate it, its the subject that will give you a way to your career. That is each and every course requires a pass in mathematics i.e C+ and above. So you better wake up from your silly and deep sleep that your cant manage to pass "MATHEMATICS" .

The In4ma: Career Choice

The In4ma: Career Choice: What is your career? Did you choose your own career or its a project of your family? Did you chose your career early enough? Most of you do...

Career Choice

What is your career? Did you choose your own career or its a project of your family? Did you chose your career early enough? Most of you do not know their career, or they are doing a wrong one.
85% of form four students do not know exactly what they intend to do or be after their K.C.S.E examinations are released. Most of them if asked they will tell you "i want to be an engineer, doctor, pilot, accountant etc. Most of those who give out these answers are B and C materials, that cant happen, never.

A fact still remains that if you cant score an A in your final form four exams you cant be a doctor or an engineer. Face the reality that if you are a B material you ought to be positive minded about it, because you are good at something an A material student is not.

When i joined campus i wanted to be an accountant at the end of it all beacuse i did Bcom, but guess what i ended up doing what i love most right now(Business Infomation Systems). BIS is one of the options of Bcom but just because many of the Bcom first years think that the degree is all about Marketing, Finance and Accounting, and I was a real victim. I dont want you to lie there. What do you love doing? Where do you spend you free time most. I am not talking about visiting friends, watching movies or singing: I mean something like designing a photo to upload to a social site or tryng to make out worn out electronics. This can lead you to be a graphical designer and a mechanical engineer respectively, all you have to do is to stop being negative minded about other careers. Just as you think about becoming a pilot or a doctor.... try thinking outside the box positively i.e. becoming a teacher, an entrepreneur, a vetinary officer, a carpenter etc. This will give you a broader way to get into knowing your real career.

Current initiative

An MSc student at Kenyatta's Nairobi campus
Kenyatta University has embarked on a rapid expansion strategy aimed at making it a world-class university and at expanding the courses it offers. To achieve this, the university has created a solid ICT infrastructure which includes a campus network based on fibre optic technology, gigabit access to the network for both students and staff to facilitate access to the Internet and localized information services.
It has built a morgue with the introduction of surgery and medicine courses. The university is building more labs and reviving projects that had been stalled for years, including completion of an arts complex. More effort is being put on the flow of information by investing in communication channels and getting feedback from students. This includes a community radio, which is streamed via the Internet to the satellite campuses across Kenya.
The Arts Complex (phases 1 and 2) that houses the university radio station KU 99.9 FM, 2 hostels (Nyayo 5 and 6), New Lecture Halls (Onesmo OleMoiyoi Lecture Thetre) and the science laboratories have been finalized. Another milestone has been the completion of a large 5 storey laboratory and library unit that is visible from the Thika road; it is rumoured to accommodate all 24,000 students as well as an amphitheatre.
A state of the art Business and Student Servive Center was opened on May 2009 that has facilities including the office os the dean of students, food courts, banks, post office, Student governance offices, mentoring offices, the university printing press, a computer laboratory which is meant to be open for 224 hours and aa reading room just to mention a few.

University of Nairobi

The University of Nairobi (UON) is the largest university in Kenya. Although its history as an educational institution goes back to 1956, it did not become an independent university until 1970 when the University of East Africa was split into three independent universities: Makerere University in Uganda, the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, and the University of Nairobi.
In 2002 the University had some 22,000 students, of whom 17,200 were undergraduates and 4,800 postgraduates. The university has launched several policy frameworks and introduced module 2 and module 3 degrees to cope with the demand of higher education in Kenya.

History

The inception of the University of Nairobi is traced back to 1956, with the establishment of the Royal Technical College which admitted its first lot of A-level graduates for technical courses in April the same year. The Royal Technical College was transformed into the second University College in East Africa on 25 June 1961 under the name Royal College Nairobi. The college was entitled to a special relation with the University of London whereupon it started preparing students in the faculties of arts, science, and engineering for degrees awarded by the University of London.
On 20 May 1964, the Royal College Nairobi was renamed University College Nairobi as a constituent college of the inter-territorial Federal University of East Africa, and henceforth the enrolled students were to study for degrees of the University of East Africa rather than the University of London. In 1970, the University College Nairobi transformed into the first national university in Kenya and was renamed the University of Nairobi.
Recently, the university has made ties with the University of Rome La Sapienza and Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium mainly for research funding purposes.

Colleges

In view of the rapid expansion and complexities in administration, the university underwent a major restructuring in 1983 resulting in decentralization of the administration through the creation of six campus colleges headed by principals.
  • College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (Upper Kabete Campus)
  • College of Architecture and Engineering (Main Campus)
  • College of Biological and Physical Sciences (Chiromo Campus)
  • College of Education and External Studies (Kikuyu Campus and Kenya science campus)
  • College of Health Sciences (Kenyatta National Hospital)
  • College of Humanities and Social Sciences (Main Campus)
  • College of Business ( Lower kabete campus)
